3M™ Cubitron™ II Cut-Off Wheel

The 3M™ Cubitron™ Cut Off disc is constructed using 3M Precision Shaped Ceramic Grain. It delivers an unbeatable combination of performance and value. Specially designed to be used on metals, these high-quality cutting discs deliver outstanding cutting performance.

The cut off disc features 3M Precision Shaped Grain which forms into triangularly shaped grains that are electrostatically positioned onto the backing. The grains then act as individual cutting tools, reducing metal discoloration with extreme efficiency. It allows the disc to last significantly longer than conventional grain abrasives while maintaining a high cut through rate.

These discs are great for a number of metalworking applications, such as weld removal, beveling, chamfering and more. Offering faster and consistent cuts through pipes, tubes and sheets, it’s a disc you can rely on for your toughest cutting jobs.

Features and Benefits

• Engineered to cut faster and last longer than competitive ceramic products
• 3M Precision Shaped Grain is self-sharpening runs cool and optimises mineral breakdown for extra-long life
• Rigid reinforced resin-bonded wheel slices through almost all materials
• The wheel must have a maximum operating speed greater than or equal to the maximum speed of the power tool used

Applications

3M™ Cubitron™ II Cut-Off Wheel contains 3M Precision Shaped Ceramic Grain for an exceptionally fast cutting and long lasting wheel for use on almost all materials. Our cut-off wheels surpass other wheels in both performance and longevity, delivering significant gains in productivity.

Use 3M™ Cubitron™ II Cut-Off Wheel to provide an extra sharp, quick cut that lasts much longer than other wheels. Our cut-off wheels are typically used for cutting through metals, such as autobody or marine sheet metal, stainless steel tubing, exhaust pipes, clamps and rusted fasteners.

These wheels contain 3M Precision Shaped Grain which forms into triangular points that slice through metal rather than gouging or ploughing like traditional abrasives. These points continuously self-sharpen as they fracture, generating an extremely fast cut. This lessens heat build-up due to friction, reducing heat-related stress cracks and discolouration.

Cubitron II products last significantly longer than their conventional ceramic counterparts ensuring high performance in production applications.

Cut-off wheels are attached to a cut-off wheel tool (sold separately) and must always be used with a wheel guard for safety.

Cut off discs, sometimes referred to as cutting discs or cutting wheels, are great for weld removals and cutting through metals like stainless steel, mild steel, aerospace alloys and more. This could occur in industries such as farm and construction, automotive, ship and boat building, aerospace, metal fabrication.

They are typically used with angle grinders or disc cutters, offering portable solutions for cutting through many different types of material, depending on the construction of the disc. This particular disc is used for cutting through metal, such as car body or tube and sheet cutting using on stainless steel, exhaust tube, rusted fasteners.

Cutting discs are not to be confused with grinding discs, as using the wrong grade of disc for grinder applications can result in damage to your tools and in extreme cases damage to your person.

Is there a difference between cutting and grinding discs?

Yes, the thickness of the discs are different, with cutting discs being thinner than grinding discs. Cuttings generally don't have adequate lateral strength for side grinding.

Can you use metal cutting discs on masonry applications?

No, masonry applications would need a separate disc. Metals cutting discs are usually made from aluminium oxide particles, while masonry cutting discs are made from silicon carbide.

What safety precautions should I take?

Cut off wheels are attached to a cut off wheel tool (sold separately) and must always be used with a wheel guard for safety. Regardless of what kind of cutting wheel or grinding wheel you choose, and for whichever application, be sure to equip appropriate PPE such as eye protection, hand protection and possibly respiratory protection. 3M has an extensive selection of personal protective equipment to choose from.

Why Choose 3M?

3M are a trusted and recognized brand when it comes to abrasives and associated tools and accessories. With a wide range of products to suit nearly any application, they are a brand of choice for both professional tradespeople and DIY enthusiasts alike.
